January Meeting: Respecting Myself and Others

January Meeting: Respecting myself and others

The girls started out by drawing a picture of them doing something that they are proud of!

Then we read the story A Surprise for Lilly where all of our petal friends were invited to a party. But, our petal friends learned a few lessons along the way including how to take care of ourselves by brushing our hair and teeth and making sure our clothes are clean. They also learned about respecting others by being kind, cheering up a friend and doing what you say you are going to do.

Part of respecting ourselves is building our self-esteem and being proud of who we are. The girls picked a colored bead from the bag and their bead color determined what they told us what they would share. Statements included:
  • I'm most proud of . . . .
  • I'm really good at  . . . .
  • My talent is  . . . .
  • In school, I'm good at  . . . .
  • The sport I'm best at is  . . . .

They then shared their bead and their statement in the trust circle.

Next, they created the Compliment Chain. They took a slip of paper, wrote their name on it, and then linked it with their neighbor's piece. While linking, they had to compliment their neighbor on something. They did a great job of pointing out how sincere, friendly and kind their friends all were.

The then made the friendship circle and we closed the meeting.
